Students are required to complete a questionnaire outlining their skill level for proper class placement.
Classes
Kids & Parent Knit-Night
Introductory level for children to learn the wonders of knitting. Learn knitting, purling, casting on, casting off and knitting basics that will lead to your first finished project. The class will consist of two parts, one session to learn and the second session to refresh and follow up on the student’s progress. Parents can also sign up to participate with their child Cost: $15.00 plus materials. Two consecutive Friday nights 6:30-8.00 p.m.
Beginner Knit
Designed for the beginner knitter or those that have knit but need a refresher. The course will cover knitting styles, casting on, casting off, knitting, purling and basic pattern reading. This class will be project based and you will have a wonderful finished project at the end of the course. Course is two hour segments, 6-8 hours in duration depending on the instructor. Tuesday evenings 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Intermediate Knit
Designed for those that have basic knitting skills. This course will cover stitch patterns-lace, cable, Fair Isle and slip stitch-, fixing mistakes, knitting in the round, short rows, how to increase and decrease, shaping and reading a pattern or chart. The course is two hour segments 6 – 8 hours in duration.
Finishing classes
Learn how to pick up stitches, assembling, blocking, darning, weaving-in ends, shoulder seams and more. Course is 3 hours in duration.
Socks
Students will learn a variety of techniques using DPN’s or circulars. Sock workshops will include a choice of techniques such as toe-up, top-down or toe-up magic loop using one long circular needle. Course is 3-4 hours in duration.
Beginner Crochet
“Get Hooked” with this introductory level to crochet class designed for the beginner. Learn basic stitches such as chains, chain foundation, slip, singles and doubles. Learn how to bind-off in order to complete your simple project. Class is two sessions-4 hours in duration.
Intermediate Crochet
Up-grade your beginner skills to master new techniques covered in this course. You will learn new stitches such as bobble, cluster and popcorn to detail and enhance your projects. This class will cover gauge, pattern reading and also increases, decreases and edging techniques. Class is two sessions-4 hours in duration.
Tunisian Crochet
Tunisian Crochet is a fascinating craft, that is a marriage of knitting and crochet which produces a wonderful woven fabric. Students will learn the basic Tunisian crochet stitch and will complete a small project which will teach them how to inlay colours. Some knowledge of knitting and crochet an asset. Class is two 3 hour sessions- 6 hours in duration.
Work Shops
Creative Yarns will offer a variety of work shops covering the following techniques and classes as interest and participant numbers dictate:
Lace
An exciting and challenging knitting form producing beautiful patterns and stunning finished projects. Designed for the advanced knitter. 5 hours.
Necklines
Students will learn how to plan ahead for neckline treatment when knitting to make picking up for the neckline easier and neater. They will learn ratios and techniques that will make necklines their favourite sweater edge. Designed for the intermediate knitter. 1 hour.
Buttonholes
Students will learn ratios for picking up button (hole) bands, how to make a variety of buttonholes that will suit different stitches and how many buttonholes to use. You’ll want to make your next sweater a cardigan after this work shop. Designed for the intermediate knitter. 2 hours.
Grafting
From shoulders to toes grafting is a necessary technique. Don’t be afraid of live stitches any longer- learn to graft. Intermediate knitter. 1 hour.
