This class is an introduction to a fascinating family of stitch patterns: the brioche stitch family. The basic brioche stitch creates a textured fabric with great drape, and there are endless variations of the stitch that offer lots of opportunities for your creativity.

- single-colour brioche stitch basics
- brioche knit stitch
- brioche purl stitch
- increases and decreases in brioche stitch
- syncopated brioche stitch
- honeycomb brioche stitch
Skill prerequisites
Students must be able to:
- cast on
- knit and purl
- understand yarn overs
- read patterns and charts
Materials
Please bring the following with you to class:
- light colour DK (Double Knit) yarn (wool is recommended)
- straight or circular needles to match the yarn (if in doubt, check the recommended needle size on the ball band)
- markers, scissors, waste yarn
- Barbara Walker’s “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” (optional)
