Step by step, Michelle will walk you through the creation of a very basic, chunky weight fingerless mitt (one mitt of pair, both alike). This is perfect for the knitter wanting to make their first mittens, done in the round and with a simplified thumb gusset.
Techniques covered
You will learn how to:
- work in rounds with 4 double point needles, starting with casting on and getting needles joined without twisting
- follow basic pattern instructions
- cast off in rib pattern and easy modifications.
Skill prerequisites
Students must be able to:
- cast on
- knit/purl in stocking st and 2×2 rib
- check and correct tension gauge
- keep row count
- knit with average speed
Materials
Please bring the following with you to class:
- 50g ball of yarn, approx 70-80 m in a chunky weight (smooth and light coloured preferred)
- a set of 4 double point needles size 5mm/US 8 (or size required to achieve correct tension)
- 1 stitch marker or safety pin
