Grafting—a Crash Course (Finished)

In this short 1 hour class learn the basics of grafting in stocking stitch. This is the joining technique you need for: toes of socks, underarms, shoulders, tops of hoods and many other items.

Materials

Please bring the following with you to class:

  • your homework swatch (instructions below)
  • a yarn needle, blunt end and very large
  • scissors, highlighter marker and reading glasses (if needed)
Homework

Knit a swatch using very thick yarn (minimum chunky weight), in a light, solid colour, on straight pair of needles to match yarn (6mm +):

  • Cast on 20 sts and work in stocking stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl), until piece measures approx 25.5 cm/ 10 ins long, ending with a purl row. Do not cast off.
