Using a modular technique, we will create a multicoloured vest incorporating 3 solid colours and 1 variegated yarn. Fingering/sock weight yarn results in an easy to wear and versatile garment. Personal colour choice will ultimately decide the flare of the finished vest. From dramatic to subtle, the choice is yours. Pattern is provided. The classes are scheduled to allow time for you to complete the vest and finish it in the final class. This class is suitable for anyone comfortable with garter stitch.
The class offers a glimpse into the secrets of continental knitting: how to hold your yarn, how to knit and purl in more than one way, how to control tension.
The class is intended for English knitters or new knitters who want to improve their knitting.
This class is an introduction to a fascinating family of stitch patterns: the brioche stitch family. The basic brioche stitch creates a textured fabric with great drape, and there are endless variations of the stitch that offer lots of opportunities for your creativity.
This is a technique class, comprising 40+ of Mary Pat’s favourite methods, short-cuts and ingenious approaches, distilled after years of knitting and much instruction from experts. Taken as a whole, this class is a short-cut to serious knitting expertise.

Do you struggle with knitting patterns for sweaters and other garments designed with set-in sleeves? You’re not alone. Many of us have unfinished sweater projects in the backs of our closets; projects that ‘don’t seem to be working’, but we’re not sure why, or what we would need to do to fix them. Perhaps the pattern is unclear, or poorly designed for different sizes, or we just need to make changes for our specific body measurements, and set-in sleeves can make it hard to understand how to read a pattern and modify it to fix specific problems.
Join experienced garment designer Michelle Porter for this workshop on set-in sleeves. She will be teaching the design aspects involved in creating the sleeve cap and the armhole of a set-in sleeve sweater. How the measurements and shaping of the pieces should correspond and come together to fit each other and the wearer exactly. This class is mostly theory, using measurements from our bodies and a tension gauge from a swatch.
